Inspired by the works of Hattie Stewart.
TASK
During this session we looked at the work by a graphic artist Hattie Steward. Hattie Stewart is a illustrator and artist celebrated for her signature style known as 'doodle-bombs,' which involves embellishing magazine covers with her unique illustrations. Following from the theme of the UX/UI project researching into the NHS website. I created a NHS poster in the style of Hattie Stewart.
METHODOLOGY
To begin I researched into Hattie Stewart and looked at a collection of her work. This allowed me to get a grasp of her style and give me inspiration for my piece. With this knowledge I was able to start mapping out the poster. I collected a range of NHS imagery and used photoshop selection tool to cut around and remove the backgrounds. Using Illustrator I added in all of the NHS branded colours and imagery collected to assemble a poster. To create the 'doodle bomb' style I used the paint brush tool to draw wavy backgrounds. I added other hand drawn assets like flowers, hearts and splashes to fill the space around the images. I then incoperated a header and footer section and some text with the NHS branding and messaging to convey the information the poster was showing.
REFLECTION
I'm really happy with how it turned out. I used Photoshop to place the final pieces in a mockup to see how they'd look in the real setting. To make this project even better, I might add animations to the posters to make them more interesting for people. The posters could be interactive, so viewers can touch the screen or use motion to engage with them and make the message more powerful.
