REFLECTION
TASK
In this mini project, our class received a live brief from McKinsey & Company. The primary objective was to develop an interface tailored to streamline the workflow of a flight director. By conducting extensive research and gaining insights into the daily responsibilities of a flight director, it became evident that the application would need to encompass a wide spectrum of functionalities. This encompassed providing a holistic overview of incoming and departing flights, a comprehensive display of the functional air blocks, and seamless communication capabilities with fellow team members. Through the combination of these features, the aim was to offer a solution that optimally supports the role of a flight director in managing airspace operations effectively.
METHODOLOGY
I began by creating a clear plan and conducting in-depth research to gain insights into the client's specific needs. This step allowed me to establish the requirements, ensuring a more intuitive user experience. I then established a cohesive brand identity, by creating branding elements such as a logo and a complementary color palette. These visual components were designed to create the essence of the interface and establish a recognisable brand presence.
I then started the process of designing the flight command room interface. Using Adobe XD, I incorporated functions and features required alongside the branding. The objective was to create an interface that simplifies complex workflows, ultimately alleviating stress of the flight director and fostering a smoother operational process.
REFLECTION
Overall, I enjoyed working on the UX/UI project and carrying out the research and planning. The fact that the project was a live brief from McKinsey & Company adds an extra level of professionalism and relevance to the project. I found this task particularly useful as it emphasied the importance of research into the client's needs. It was also good to be aware of the potential obstacles and how to resolve them. By taking a user-centered approach and carefully considering the needs and requirements of the client, i believe I have created an interface that is both effective and efficient in the flight command room.
If I were to extend this project, I would have delved deeper into refining the user interface, exploring opportunities to enhance functionality for an even more seamless user experience. This could include designing further pages such as the reports page. The application could include more interactive elements for the team and the ways that they can communicate via the app.  I'd carefully examine aspects like page transitions, button interactions, and other interactive elements to ensure they contribute harmoniously to the overall application experience.
